Our Story
The Black Earth Ag Hub is the flagship initiative of Nriife Roots Collective, whose primary aim is to be a catalyst for the holistic betterment of the African diasporic community. As such, the Hub is focused on strengthening Black food producers and increasing access to fresh food in Black communities across Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Who We Serve
We recognize that all agricultural pursuits in America take place on stolen land. Our Hub is centered on Lenape land, now known as Philadelphia. Instead of simply acknowledging whose land we steward, we welcome indigenous producers into our growing community with equal fervor as we do to Black farmers, ensuring their families have first access to food grown on their ancestors land.
The Agro-industrial complex as we know it was built on the stolen land of Indigenous peoples and on the labor of enslaved Africans; since then, we have continued to face systemic land theft, exclusion from resources, and exploitation. We are the stewards of this land, and we are committed to collectively reclaiming stolen knowledge and traditions, creating thriving businesses and healthier communities.
